California · chaptered amendments

What the Legislature changed, and when it starts.

Every bill that amends the Davis-Stirling Act, read from the chaptered text and compared with the text this site publishes, subdivision by subdivision.

Two things make a signed bill hard to act on. The first is that it is invisible where you would look for it: the Legislative Counsel rewrites a section in the code only once the amendment becomes operative, so a bill chaptered in August does not appear in the code until January. The second is that its title rarely says what it does. AB 1892 is titled Common interest developments: associations and carries the only two amendments to the election sections enacted in 2026.

So the bills here are found by the sections they name rather than by words in their subject, and each one is shown as a difference against the text in force — deletions struck, insertions underlined, renumbering separated from substance. Where an amendment is signed but not yet in force, that is stated with the date it starts, and the section pages carry the same difference under the text it will replace.

The bills

This index is being extended backwards to 2013, when the Act was recodified into its present numbering. Fourteen bills amended the Act in the 2025–2026 session alone.
